The Brief
The team at Barby Nurseries were looking for a long-term renewable energy solution that would help reduce operational costs while supporting their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
With a large roof area and extensive open space available, the site offered an excellent opportunity to transform unused infrastructure into an energy-generating asset.
Our Solution
Following a detailed site survey and consultation, we developed a bespoke Solar PV solution tailored to the client’s requirements, property and budget.
During our roof inspection, we identified that the building was fitted with an unconventional UltraTile roofing system. The roof panels were manufactured from galvanised steel with a profiled, granule-coated finish designed to replicate the appearance of traditional clay or concrete roof tiles. Due to the lightweight and specialist nature of the roofing material, standard solar mounting brackets could not be used without compromising the roof’s integrity or warranty.
To overcome this challenge, we worked closely with the roof manufacturer to design and manufacture bespoke mounting brackets specifically engineered for the UltraTile roof system. This ensured the Solar PV installation remained fully secure, weatherproof, and compliant while preserving the performance and warranty of the existing roof structure.
We then successfully installed a bespoke Solar PV system consisting of 42 solar panels across the garden centre roof.

- AC isolator – IMO – 32A 4-pole

The Results
The completed installation has provided Barby Nurseries with a long-term renewable energy solution that helps reduce energy costs, improve energy security and support their sustainability objectives.
By generating their own electricity onsite, the business is now less reliant on grid energy and better protected against future energy price increases. The system has also enabled them to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility.
