The Brief
The Sailing Club in Banbury approached Elektra Smart Energy looking for a way to reduce its ongoing electricity costs at the Club.
With regular electricity demands associated with running the club and its facilities, the installation of solar PV provided an opportunity to generate clean, renewable electricity on site while reducing the club’s reliance on energy from the grid.

Our Solution
Following a detailed site survey and consultation, our team designed a bespoke solar PV system specifically for the sailing club’s clubhouse, making excellent use of the available roof space to generate clean, renewable electricity on site.
We installed 14 Jinko Tiger Neo 440W N-Type All Black Mono solar panels, providing a total installed capacity of 6.16kW. The panels were selected for their high efficiency, modern N-Type technology and sleek all-black finish, providing excellent solar generation while complementing the appearance of the clubhouse.
The solar array is connected to a Growatt MIN 5000 TL-X single-phase inverter with Arc Fault Protection, efficiently converting the electricity generated by the panels into usable power for the clubhouse while providing an additional level of electrical protection.
An Emlite ECA2 single-phase meter with extended cover was installed to accurately monitor the electricity generated and exchanged with the grid.
The installation also includes an IMO 32A 4-pole AC isolator, together with MC4 4mm connector pairs, providing the necessary isolation and secure connections for the solar PV systeThe completed installation provides the sailing club with a reliable and efficient 6.16kW solar PV system, making productive use of the clubhouse roof and helping the club generate its own renewable electricity, reduce its reliance on grid-supplied energy and lower its ongoing electricity costs.

The Results
The installation has given the memorial hall a more efficient and sustainable way to manage its energy consumption.
By generating electricity from solar power, the hall can reduce the amount of electricity it needs to purchase from the grid. The addition of battery storage allows surplus solar energy generated during the day to be stored and used later, helping to increase self-consumption and make the most of the solar PV system.
The project provides the hall with a long-term investment designed to help reduce energy costs, improve energy independence and lessen its carbon footprint.
For a community facility such as a memorial hall, reducing ongoing operating costs can make a significant difference. The solar and battery system is helping to ensure that more of the hall’s funds can continue to support the local community rather than being spent on energy bills.
